I used to laugh at people who claimed that the weather was conspiring against them.
Ha! I’d say.
The world is not shitting on you! I’d say.
Get over yourself! I’d say.
And yet now, here I find myself. Hiding indoors on yet another day off as the weather continues to keep me down. Granted, the finaky and I did go play kick ball for a bit this aft, but the humidity made the air so thick it was a work out just to breath.
And now, here I find myself, making the same complaints others have made before me. Why has the sun not come out once on my days off? Why have I not had occassion to lay about, semi-clothed, on my patio sipping something cold and bubbly while flip flopping every fifteen minutes to ensure an even tone?
WHY I ask you!?!
If it continues like this, I will need to seriously invest in rain boots and a flashy umbrellas just to keep a smile on my face.
(but if I had a camera, I’d show you the amazing cloud formation over our apartment right now. it’s eerie.)
Okay, for those of us living in Alberta, there is a phrase we have all come to be familiar with. But I always found that it was a little more applicable to weather in the mountains.
“Don’t like the weather? Wait five minutes.”
Yesterday we woke up to an inch or so of snow. The sky was dark, it was really windy and wet and leaning towards being utterly miserable. But by about 5pm, the snow had all melted and the sun was considering peeking out.
And this morning, I woke up to sunshine, no clouds and on its way to a delightful +9. Big smiles!
Tonight I am taking a break from the studying and going out. The fianky and his comedy boys are heading to O’Byrnes to do their first music show. They’ve got new songs, introduced a trombone and a penny whistle. Hoping the crowd isn’t too small, but expecting it to be. As the sound guy said, “Even Jesus could fail on a Wednesday night at O’Byrnes.” Trial by fire, I suppose!
My brother is coming to the show, and that’s good enough for me! Brother Bear has returned after 20 months living in Australia. When the fianky and I got together, Brother Bear was living in Whistler. He came home for, oh, maybe 5 days and then left for the other side of the world. He met my man friend once, but I don’t think he ever saw what he does. I’ve got a couple of other friends who I don’t get to see nearly as much as I’d like to, including the old roommate K. Should be swell!
